EXERCICE 1 : Translate into Swahili :


  1. Mahindi, mafuta, maji, maembe, malimau, mayai, machungwa, mapapai , maziwa, debe, gunia, jembe, magazeti, shoka, magari, duka, soko, mafundi, mawaziri, makarani.

  2. Ninakunywa maji, ninakula mahindi, anachukua papai, anauza mafuta, nunua machungwa ! Chukua mablanketi ! Usisahau gazeti ! Kunywa maziwa lako ! Wanafanya kazi shambani, wanacheza barazani, anakula jikoni, angalia joka ! Pika mayai ! Kata nanasi ! Sema jina lako !



EXERCISE 2 : Translate into English :


  1. A president, an aunt, clerks, the knees, the stomach, the ears, words, thoughts, at the market, at the farm, in the bush, grass, a blanket, a window, a hoe, an eye, a tooth, a name, in the kitchen, mistakes.

  2. The prime minister, good milk, a new mattress, a yellow blanket, a long bridge, a fierce sun, lengthy conversations, small pawpaws, a rotten lemon, a few eggs, lots of corn, malicious insults, a severe grand-mother, a good craftsman, a big veranda, (It's) your advice, my name, my thoughts, a long big snake, unripe oranges.


EXERCISE 3 : Translate into English :


  1. Go to the shop to buy milk !
  2. Mother goes to the kitchen to prepare the food.
  3. The children like to eat unripe mangoes.
  4. The carpenters are working on the veranda.
  5. Today at the market, the oranges were more expensive than the mangoes.
  6. I need a clean blanket and a new mattress.
  7. The women are selling eggs and oil at the market.
  8. "Cinderella" does a lot of dirty work.
  9. Drink pure water only, don't drink dirty water !
  10. I'm afraid of the venimous big snake in the bush !
